Pirates Tub-Thumping

I've walked past the big posters for this new Aardman epic the last three times I've visited the Sony Pictures Imageworks facility ...

With the exception of Chicken Run, the Aardman product tends to under-perform stateside. I've no clear idea as to why, but maybe it's due to Brit humor not translating well to American audiences when it travels across the Atlantic white caps.

Certainly Arthur Christmas was far better received by the critics than the box office. Whatever the reason for the weak showing, perhaps The Pirates! Band of Misfits will have a happier ending when it rolls out on March 30th. ...

Looks more and more amazing every time I see it.

Aardman rocks. Even John K loves their work which is saying something.

That's not a real endorsement - other than to the few people who think John is a God (starting with himself, of course)

Haha true. I'm certainly not one of those people at all.

Just thought it was interesting that even the guy who is notorious for despising... well almost all of modern animation in general... likes Aardman's stuff.

It's kind of a testimony to how universally appealing their work is. Even people who hate most modern animation like Aardman.

Obviously you've not seen much of johnk's work since he quit Ren and Stimpy.

Sorry for highjacking the post Steve! My God... what have I started?

Obviously you've not seen much of johnk's work since he quit Ren and Stimpy.

Not exactly sure what this has to do with my post but yeah, I've seen bits and pieces here and there.

Some is alright, most is kind of meh.

And wasn't he fired from Ren and Stimpy because he kept missing deadlines?

Dear Imageworkers, enjoy your half-wages and the high cost of living when you move to Vancouver!

Dear Anon:

Pirates wasn't made at Imageworks so your comment is irrelevant.
